MASSAGE
Karen Kelly, LMT, MAM, is a New York State licensed and Nationally Certified Massage Therapist, Birth Doula and Maya Abdominal Massage Practitioner. Karen is a graduate of the Finger Lakes School of Massage in Ithaca, NY. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Bennington College in Vermont. There she studied holistic medicine and gained a greater awareness of the interconnectedness of one's individual health in relation to the mind, body and spirit.

Karen utilizes The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage™ which combine modern science with traditional healing and wisdom to produce a holistic path to physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. The primary element of Karen Kelly's sessions is Arvigo’s Maya Abdominal Massage which is a non-invasive, external massage technique. This technique, which is effective for both men and women, applies anatomy, physiology, herbology and naprapathy (the study of the ligaments, joints and muscles) with Ancient Maya healing techniques to address common ailments.

The technique works by relieving congestion and blockages to improve the flow of chi and fluids of the circulatory, lymphatic and nervous systems. Not only does this restore circulation and lymphatic drainage by relieving these blockages, Maya Abdominal Massage can also ease muscles tightened by tension and emotion and can help to prevent the progression of chronic disease symptoms. Overall, this massage increases circulation to every part of the body which is imperative when stress hormones rise and oxygenated, nutrient-rich blood flow is impaired. YOGA
Hatha yoga works for everyone regardless of body shape and size, age and illness. If you are challenged with a particular disorder or need to focus on a particular goal, then you should consider Hatha yoga. In general, it is effective because it promotes a healthy lifestyle. Its practice is based upon your needs, reflecting an individualized regime that suits your lifestyle and body, and most importantly, yoga should complement other treatments you are receiving.

One of the many benefits of yoga is overall balance, working on multiple levels. Physically, yoga helps to increase flexibility, strength and balance and addresses structural alignment. Physiologically, yoga has been proven to decrease cortisol levels (the stress hormone), relax muscle tension, promote deep breathing (which means more oxygenated blood in the system) and activate the parasympathetic nervous system (our body’s built-in mechanism for healing and renewal). Psychologically, yoga elevates mood, helps one gain a sense of equanimity in times of stress, develops more self-awareness and reduces feelings of depression and anxiety. Spiritually, yoga is about experiencing a universal connection, leading to a sense of peace and wholeness and to the knowledge that everything you could need for healing is already present within you.

MEDITATION
Traditionally, meditation focused primarily on spiritual growth, and more recently, meditation has become a valuable tool for finding peace within ourselves on many levels. For most of our patients, relaxation and stress reduction are of paramount importance. Developing an internal oasis in a demanding, fast-paced world produces a grounding effect and creates a calm center. In facing our physical and emotional challenges this helps to calm the mind, empowering us to achieve greater overall wellness.

Our FREE, monthly guided-meditation workshops will help you find balance within yourself in facing your current challenges. You will experience many benefits such as directing healing energy toward an affected area, emotional cleansing and balancing, a deepened level of concentration and insight, and finding your inner guidance. All of this creates a sense of deep relaxation.

Achieving this state through meditation produces several physiological changes, including a decreased heart rate, a decreased respiratory/ rate and a decrease in musculo-skeletal tension.
